Writing strategies ➝ The plan | Writing

Making a plan, before writing a letter, is essential. You don't start building a house without having drawn up or had a plan drawn up and without having calculated the number of materials needed. The same goes for writing a letter. Whether writing a poetic, dramatic, narrative, or essay, a speaker can decide to tell a story (narrative speech), to defend an idea using arguments (argumentative speech), to challenge the recipient (speech explanatory). These different ways of presenting or developing an idea constitute what we call the processes of the organization of discourse. The choice of speech depends on the goal that the speaker pursues in his work, the person to whom he is addressing, and the message he wants to convey.
